Andreas Oscarrson Murdered at Home
The world of gambling and poker has, a long time in the past, had a rather sinister streak. From the wild west gun fights to Las Vegas mafia hitmen, blood has been spilt over a deck of cards on many occasions. In the modern age of the Internet and online poker the threat of violence seems far removed from the comfort of cyberspace.
Sadly, last week, Andreas Oscarrson was murdered in his bedroom in Sweden. Oscarrson is not a name most readers will know. Poker industry insiders will, however, know Oscarrson well as the original founder and, up until his death, consultant for a popular poker portal that, much like the Rough Guide to Poker, dispenses useful information about poker rooms and the game.
Swedish police are yet to find the culprit or a motive for his murder. It appears Oscarrson’s two year old son may be the only witness to the horrific shooting.
Poker forums have been active with gossip surrounding the murder and many suggest Oscarrson may have been involved in some less than legal activities before his involvement in poker. His murder certainly has all the classic hallmarks of a gangland “hit”.
Many considered Oscarrson a pioneer and his influence on poker portals and in affiliate programs is certain to live on for many years to come.
