Yes, it's offline poker. So you may well be asking, "what's this got to do with me?" Well, bear in mind that a lot of these big players fund their seats at the WPT, EPT and other big, scary tournaments, with their online poker play. So, who knows who you're virtually sitting next to at 32Red Poker - it could be one of the fellas below...
The Dutch master, Constant Rijkenberg, has won the EPT Italy tournament in San Remo, taking home €1,500,000. It took some time to whittle away the record attendance of 1,117 players, but when it came down to the crunch and the heads-up between Rijkenberg and Niemi, it took just a matter of seconds. In fact, another record was broken and the heads up has gone down in the annals as the quickest in EPT history.
The EP tour has rolled on, and the final is now taking place down in sunny (and expensive) Monte Carlo. 700 players have made the journey, where the buy in is a scary €10,600. There will be, of course, the infamous high rolling side games which will no doubt create some millionaires and, if the pro's have the budget, make for some rich and easy pickings.
Father and son duo, Chris and Simon Moorman, are starting to build a repuation. Moorman Jnr has taken the UK poker scene by storm and has become one of Britain's brightest young poker talents. But Dad won't be undone by his son...Just the other weekend, Moorman Snr won the Machester leg of the GUKPT and left over £88,000 the richer for it and proving that old dogs really can learn new tricks...Chris was heard to say, "bring on the WSOP", recognising that he'll have to aim high if he's going to say ahead of the Old Man.
In other news: The Vic' (London's Victoria Casino) is going to hold a 24h charity poker tournament day. All of the day's taking will go to helping the St Jon's Hospice. The schedule is busy and should be first-class poker entertainment. If you're in the area then head down between the 7th and 8th of May and you'll be guaranteed a decent game of poker.
