Dusk til Dawn Set to Close?
The one and only UK licensed and dedicated offline poker club is reportedly just weeks away from closure. The Nottingham tabloids broke the news, noting that the current economic climate and tax changes could mean the club closes its doors in just a matter of days. The result would be a loss to poker but, more importantly, it would mean another 100 people made unemployed.
The financial problems the club now face are not entirely of their own making, which makes any possible closure or down-sizing all the more bitter. A leading factor in it's problems stem from the owner (Rob Young) not being able to reclaim VAT on the £100 million spent on refurbishing the club. However, funding large prizepools for recent poker tournaments may also be to blame and, in hindsight, were too substantial for the times. Nonetheless Young was pessimistic when quoted as saying, “It’s very saddening after all the hard work that myself and my staff have put into the club but it’s highly likely we’ll be closing.”
In a later press release Young wanted to reassure staff that there would be no quick decisions on the future of the club, but was merely trying to highlight the difficulties the club has faced and continues to face.

Vitalty Lunkin has already bagged the first big event in the $40k buy-in NLHE tournament, walking away a millionaire and proudly wearing a WSOP bracelet. His total prize money? A very tidy $1,800,000. Nice.
Thang Luu followed up with victory in the $1.5k Omaha hi-lo tournament, ensuring that he retains the title is won in 2008. The prize money maybe a fraction of the big Texas Holdem Poker games but anyone who can win back-to-back poker tournaments at the WSOP is worthy of mention. Congrats to him - potentially the greatest Omaha Hi Lo player ever.
