Huck Seeds Wins the NBC Heads Up Championships
As always, the NBC Heads Up Championships attracted the game's biggest hitters to Las Vegas, including some names you may recognise like Dwan, Juanda, Hellmuth and Rousso. Squaring off on the felt at Caesar's Palace, these heavyweights battled it out for a slice of the poker tournaments $500,000 prize pot.
The buy-in was a princely $25,000, so falling outside the bubble would seriously impact on wallets, well, it would have made my eyes water... It's surprising, therefore, to hear that Layne Flack missed the event after committing to the huge buy-in for the seat. Turns out he enjoyed a few alcholic beverages in the Pure nightclub and after a while was in no fit state to walk home. Taking the car seemed like the only obvious option...He was stopped after a brief drive by the Vegas cops and put in the slammer for 24 hours, which consequently put a (very) early end to the Championships for him. Flack found a replacement in David Oppenheim who went on to finish 5th and taking home $75k. Not bad for a replacement...
Eventually the poker tournament whittled down to Huck Seed and Vanessa Rousso, with Seed eventually coming out on top - and if you've seen Rousso then you know this isn't a bad position to be in! Seed took home the very tidy sum of $500,000 but don't have too much sympathy for Rousso - she took home $250,000 and caps a great run of form for her of late.
