Latest WSOP 2009 Poker News
The 2009 WSOP is well underway now, with bracelets and monumental payouts being dished out faster and bigger than the $10 all you can eat buffet dinner at Harrahs (they had to wheel me out...). And it's the same old names that are shining again, which should surely serve to dispel any belief that poker is merely a game of chance. I mean, how it can it be that out of hundreds, even thousands of players, it's the same old pros battling it out at the final tables?
Anyway, I digress. One of the big names, and they don't come any bigger, is Phil Ivey. After signing up to the $2,5000 2-7 Lowball event and taking the tables by storm he walked away with over $96,000 and his sixth WSOP bracelet. The result here makes him the 7th best WSOP player of all time and, with a long career ahead of him, who knows how many he can collect in his lifetime.
Another big player, Daniel Negreanu, took to the $2,500 Limit Texas Holdem six handed poker tournament and quickly eliminated opponents to reach the final table. His opponent: Brock Parker. To say Negreanu was favourite was an understatement, but it was Parker that triumphed ultimately - one for the small guy! Negreanu won't be too disappointed though, as a $138,00 pay day always makes things look a little brighter.
In other news, Rob Young of the Dusk till Dawn poker club has issued another press statement this week. This time he's not predicting the imminent closure of the club but rather to reassure the staff and the regulars that all is well, but that's not to say easy. Watch this space.
Another struggling poker outfit, the London Poker Circuit, have announced changes for the coming year. It was much needed given they often competed against more established events on the same days. Hopefully these changes will inject some life into the languishing group.
