Poker Rivals Duke it Out Away From the Felt
Fierce, but usual friendly poker rivals, Gus Hansen and Theo Jorgensen brought their feud off the poker tables and to the boxing ring last week, when the two duked it out for €35,000. Catching the imagination of pokers players around the world, a great deal of money was placed on the event at the various bookmakers and thousands watched online. Even with the extraordinary amounts of attention surrounding this bout, I don't immediately see a massive switch by players between the two sports just yet...
The three rounds of boxing resulted in Theo beating Gus in 9 minutes of aggressive, albeit amateur, boxing. It also resulted in Gus simply taking a pummelling for 9 minutes, too. A one sided affair, but thankfully with no lost teeth or spilt blood, Gus was able to walk away undamaged. Embarrassed, but walking... This will no doubt mean more table banter for both players at the poker tables but, ultimately, bragging rights lie squarely with Theo.
