Leading Poker Company Blasts RakeBack
Online poker players are usually a savvy bunch. Most will seek out deals with online operators which they think will improve their profits and suit their style of play. Rakeback is one type of deal which some online operators promote but not on the iPoker network. Late last week, the iPoker network chief, Danny Frischman, made a scathing attack on online poker rooms that offer rakeback.
Frischman said; “Giving players linear percentages from the rake they are generating creates a price war, reduces the bottom line to a minimum and does not incentivise loyalty. It is killing the industry by taking money from developing better platforms and promotion.”
Frischman’s comments follow on from remarks made by other leading online poker operator figures. One COO, Peter Marcus, called for operators to “get their acts together” over excessive rakeback deals.
Our opinion? Poker players deserve rewards, but as with everything they must be balanced. Even as online poker players we don't want to see our poker rooms struggle to develop and improve our favourite game. Rakeback is fine, but needs to be a) sustainable and b) profitable for both parties. It appears of late that rakeback has become the focus of recruitment and can be an opeartors sole marketing strategy, and it is horribly repetitive, potentially underhand and stagnant. Our advice: contact a good poker room, with a wide range of varied poker promotions and ask for reasonable rakeback offer only after you have demonstrated your are a good, raking player. That way you'll get decent, exciiting reward every month.
In other news:
Poker attracts players from all walks of life and, unfortunately, sometimes the lower forms of life like to try their hand at the game we all love. Step forward former police offer and royal protection officer Paul Page. Page was found guilty, last week, of a £3 million property and investment scam and sentenced to six years in prison for his crimes.
Greed, addiction and a taste for the finer things in life spurred Page, 38, to con his family and friends out of their life savings to invest into his scam.
Following his sentencing Page was referred to as; “breathtakingly dishonest, relentless and callous” by the judge. Some may say that some of those characteristics are what make the best poker players so successful. That certainly wasn’t the case with Page. His gambling and poker addiction spiralled out of control and much of the money “invested” was simply used to fund the former cop’s taste for high stakes action and subsequently lost!
